For Homeowners, Residential Owners and Landlords

In November 2020, the UK Government launched its Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution (link to document below)

The Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution (publishing.service.gov.uk

The 10 Point Plan includes the ambitious target to install up to 600,000 Heat pumps per year by 2028 to replace and upgrade existing polluting and less energy efficient space and water heating systems.

If you are considering replacing an existing Gas or Oil fired boiler on like-for-like basis and have not considered heat pumps, we can help.

If you have already taken that first step and are thinking about installing a Heat Pump System, Melrose Design can help you along the way by providing the following specialist advice:

Step 1 - Initial Enquiry

As the first step, we may be able to undertake a simple 'desktop' assessment of your property, to determine if a Heat Pump system would be suitable. We will need some information from you, which will be discussed at the time.

If the desktop study proves that a heat pump system is suitable and you are keen to proceed, we can then move on to Step 2, Surveys

Step 2 - Surveys*

We will arrange a convenient time to visit your property to undertake a detailed non-intrusive survey both internally and externally. During the survey, will need take measurements of every room in the house, including windows and doors, and roof space (Loft) along with details of your existing heating and hot water systems and the electrical installation.

We will also take time to understand you and your lifestyle and the occupancy / usage of the property, as these are all relevant to the correct selection and specification of the heat pump system.

* During the current Covid-19 pandemic, all surveys will be performed in accordance with current Government & Local Authority Covid-19 Guidance and will be fully risk assessed. Appropriate PPE will be worn at all times.

Following the survey, we will prepare a detailed Report, which shall include detailed heat loss calculations, MCS 031 Performance Estimates,  MCS 020 Noise Assessment and DNO Notification forms as a minimum.

Heat loss calculations are carried out using the latest version of the MCS Standards, producing a room by room calculated heat loss and an overall heat loss for the building. Additionally, we can provide a schedule of radiator sizes / outputs or underfloor heating sizes required.

An installation report & drawing can also be provided, to include the external heat pump location, hot water cylinder location, ground loop requirements and proposed locations of new pipe runs where relevant.

Design

We can produce a fully detailed mechanical and electrical design, including floor plans and schematic diagrams, for any type of heat pump installation and for any heat pump manufacturer.

Green Homes Grant - Important Update (See Blog)

Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) gives households money towards renewable heating costs in their home. Payments are made for 7 years and are based on the amount of renewable heat made by your heating system.

Green Homes Grant — Simple Energy Advice

You can claim both the Domestic RHI and the Green Home Grant for the renewable heat installation. You must claim the Green Home Grant first and then notify Ofgem that you have used it when you apply for accreditation to the Domestic RHI. The Green Homes Grant will then be deducted from your Domestic RHI payments.

Households can claim both the Green Homes Grant for energy efficiency measures both before and after accreditation to the Domestic RHI.
